Have you decided to travel to Milan in your car? If so, you're probably familiar with Area B or the ZTL. At Parclick, we are always aware of all the traffic regulations in the cities where we are present so that our customers have the best parking experience possible, so here is everything you need to know about the Milan ZTL and Area B.
Area B is one of the ZTL (translated as "limited traffic zone") of Milan. This regulation was put into force on the initiative of the Milan City Council on 25 February 2019 and includes the following areas of the city:
Area B is active from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. Within these hours, access and circulation of certain vehicles, considered polluting, is prohibited. Outside these hours, including public holidays, you can move freely around the city.
Who can access Area B in Milan?
- Euro 5 and 6 petrol vehicles (i.e. manufactured from September 2009 onwards).
- LPG, methane and biofuel vehicles
- All electric or hybrid vehicles
- Euro 5 two-stroke mopeds and motorbikes (i.e. manufactured from 2020 onwards)
- Euro 4 and 5 four-stroke mopeds and motorbikes (i.e. manufactured from 2016 onwards)
If your vehicle falls into one of these categories, perfect! You can make your reservation with Parclick if you are interested in one of our car parks in this area. However, in addition to using a vehicle permitted by the regulations, you must also complete the following registration on the Milan City Council's Area B portal: Registration for access to Area B of the Milan ZTL.
It is important to note that Area B of the Milan ZTL is not a pay zone (as is the case for other ZTL in Italy), so in order to access this area within the activation hours, you simply need to consider whether your vehicle meets the conditions required to circulate in this area or not. If you want to make sure that your vehicle is suitable to access Area B, you can consult the following link: Authorised vehicles in Area B ZTL Milan
Finally, it is possible to obtain a special permit for free circulation days in Area B, regardless of the type of vehicle you use. This permit includes 50 non-consecutive days of exemption that can be used in the 12 months following the entry into force of the ban affecting your vehicle. From the second year of Area B, you can apply for a permit of only 5 days.
