Following the approval in 2021 of the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy plan, to protect human health and the urban environment by improving air quality and reducing the negative effects of motorised traffic, there is a new limited traffic zone in Madrid which some vehicles are not allowed to enter at any time of the day. This zone has been named the Plaza Elíptica ZBE and comprises a small area between the areas of Abrantes, Comillas and Moscardó.
The regulations are very simple: access and circulation is forbidden to vehicles with environmental classification A (i.e. those that do not have any environmental badge) within its perimeter, including the section of the A42 motorway. In other words, in addition to the ordinance in force since 1 January 2022, which also prohibits access and circulation of these vehicles within the perimeter of the M30, this small area inside the M40 is also included.
Except for residents, local businesses and self-employed people in the area, people with reduced mobility, public services or transport of students to schools, no vehicle without a badge will be able to access this area, with no exceptions. Therefore, if you were thinking of reserving a parking space in one of our car parks within the Plaza Elíptica area, you should take into account these regulations, as if your vehicle does not have an environmental badge, you will not be able to reserve a space here.
Don't know the environmental classification that corresponds to your vehicle? In the following link, you can consult the environmental category to which your vehicle belongs and the procedure to follow to acquire the badge, either in a physical location or online: Environmental badge.
